Kokura Castle is a popular site for viewing cherry blossoms and autumn leaves. Rent a kimono, take a stroll and take "Instagrammable" photos! Starting in June, yukata rentals will be available through the summer. Visitors can enjoy wearing a kimono for each season.
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the reconstruction of Kokura Castle keep, the exhibitions and interior have been refurbished after some 30 years of work, and the castle reopened in March 2019. It has been transformed into an entertainment castle museum.

Tanga Market

Tanga Market

Also called the "Kitchen of Kitakyushu City," this is a street with more than 100 shops that give off a nostalgic atmosphere evoking the Showa era. There are a variety of takeout foods such as sweets, snacks and deli items. Careful, though. If you have made a lunch reservation, it's easy to get tempted by the many takeout food tastings and spoil your appetite!

Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History & Human History

The view from the vantage point overlooking the life-size dinosaur skeleton is ideal for photos. Take your time to enjoy the exhibit, and take in the dramatic lighting.
In addition, the beautiful insect specimens in the Diversity of Life area on the third floor shouldn't be missed. The museum shop sells original stationery goods that will surely appeal to stationery lovers.

Night View from Mt. Sarakura

Night View from Mt. Sarakura

The night view from Mt. Sarakura, which was selected as having one of Japan's three best nightscape views, is one of the most famous viewpoints in Kitakyushu. The magnificent panorama overlooking the urban center and the cluster of factories is called the "10-billion-dollar nightscape."
Tenku Dome, located on the mountain peak and accessible by cable car and slope car, is illuminated at night and provides fantastic scenery. It has been designated as "Lover's Sanctuary" spot.

Mojiko Retro

Mojiko Retro

The Mojiko Retro Area, with buildings representing a standardized nostalgic motif, is photogenic from any angle. One of the most popular photo spots is in front of the Dalian Friendship Memorial, where the beautiful architecture of the Meiji era has been faithfully reproduced. JR Mojiko Station reopened in February 2019 after being restored to its original appearance. It offers the romantic atmosphere of the Taisho era. Those traveling by car are also urged to drop by this area.
