Matsumoto Seicho Memorial Museum

The Matsumoto Seicho Memorial Museum is the only museum in Japan dedicated to honoring the achievements of the author Seicho Matsumoto, who wrote a variety of literary works ranging from crime fiction and historical novels to books on ancient and modern history. The exhibits and graphic panels introduce Seicho's life and the era in which he lived, as well as his 700 or so books. The museum exhibits also show his study, book storeroom, and guest room where he would contemplate and create.

Kitakyushu Literature Museum

This museum, with exhibits of valuable literary memorabilia, including signed manuscripts, introduces writers who have a connection to Kitakyushu City. They include literary giants such as Mori Ogai, Hino Ashihei, Hayashi Fumiko and Sugita Hisajo. Through graphic panels and videos, visitors can immerse themselves in the rich literary resources of Kitakyushu City.

Kitakyushu Manga Museum

The Kitakyushu Manga Museum was established to introduce the more fascinating aspects of manga under the theme of "see, read and draw." The museum hosts exhibitions of manga artists who have connections with Kitakyushu City, and has a space that explains the history and mechanisms of manga. There is also a library for visitors where they can freely read some 50,000 different volumes of manga.

Matsunaga Archives

Matsunaga Archives is a movie and entertainment museum founded with materials donated from the private library of the late Matsunaga Takeshi. It houses more than 40,000 items, including movie posters. The library was awarded the Japan Movie Critics Award Special Award. As an information base for "Kitakyushu as a movie town," it hosts themed exhibitions several times a year and also movie screenings related to Kitakyushu.

Kitakyushu Municipal Archeological Center

The Buried Cultural Materials Center was established to introduce life in Kitakyushu during ancient times, and provides a course in history with picture panels exhibited of ancient ruins and excavated relics.
There are over 1000 items on display. Among them are the adorable clay figures of a wild boar and a horse unearthed from the Stone Burial Mounds, designated as a historical site of Kitakyushu City, and impressive, meter-tall, cylinder-shaped and morning glory-shaped clay figures. -
Nagasaki Kaido Koyanose Shuku Memorial Museum

The Nagasaki Kaido Koyanose Shuku Memorial Museum maintains an old street of houses from Koyanoseshuku, one of Nagasaki Kaido Chikuzen's six inn towns, offering immersion in the atmosphere of the Edo era. The museum consists of two structures, namely the Michino-Kyodo Museum, featuring a journey into history, and the Koyanose Theater, which retains the appearance of an old playhouse. They stand beside the former site of the Honjin and Wakihonjin accommodation facilities from the inn town.

Kokura Castle

The renowned Kokura Castle keep was built by Lord Hosokawa Tadaoki in 1602. It was destroyed by fire in 1837 and reconstructed in 1959. It is characterized by an architectural style called kara-zukuri, where the fifth floor is larger than the fourth. Inside the keep, there is a large theater-style exhibition hall where visitors can view a historical film featuring Kokura Castle and exhibitions introducing figures related to the castle, such as Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro.

Kokura Castle Garden is a "hands-on" cultural facility, consisting of a daimyo's garden created by rebuilding the ruins of a suburban residence, a second house (shimoyashiki) for the Ogasawawa (Lord of Kokura Castle) clan, featuring the traditional architecture of the Edo era as well as a tea room and an exhibition room. At this place of historical interest, with Kokura Castle in the background, visitors can feel the atmosphere of the Edo era even in the middle of an urban center surrounded by buildings.
