Yakusugi
Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History & Human History
On the World Heritage Site of Yakushima Island in Kagoshima Prefecture, natural cedar trees grow in abundance in the mountain areas. Among them, cedars that are more than 1,000 years old are called Yakusugi. The tree exhibited at the museum grew on Mt. Kuromi on Yakushima Island, and is more than 1,400 years old. A trial axe-mark made for logging during the era of the Shimazu Domain can be found on the surface.
