Swinhoe's storm-petrel is a migratory bird that breeds in island areas of East Asia. In Fukuoka Prefecture, Koyajima Island, which is a small island near Okinoshima Island, has been identified as a breeding site. In the 1970s, about 200 pairs of these birds were estimated to have bred on Koyajima Island. However, many of them were predated by brown rats in 1987 and 2009, This species is designated as endangered species (VU) on the Red List of the Ministry of the Environment of Japan.
