Quetzalcoatlus northropi (Replica)

Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History & Human History

A pterosaur living in North America during the very last days of the Cretaceous Period, this was one of the largest pteosaurs, with a wingspan that could exceed 10 meters. The scientific name was taken from the Aztec god of Quetzalcotl in Mexico. Their large skulls lack teeth, and one theory says that they ate small animals such as baby dinosaurs. Their estimated weights ranged from approx. 70-150 kg.
