The present-day Kitakyushu City region straddles the former Buzen Province (Kokura Domain's fief) and Chikuzen Province (Fukuoka Domain's fief). There were many stone border markers placed along the borders of the two provinces, and one that was placed at the farthest point downstream has been relocated to the museum.
