Farm House of Kokuraminami-ku, Kitakyushu City (Reproduction)

Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History & Human History(Local Culture History)

This is the reproduction of a part of the main building of a farm house in Kitakyushu City built more than 100 years ago. The house has a structure called a sugoya, which has a dirt floor room and in which the front room and living room were sheltered under a large thatched roof. The sunken fireplace was used not only to boil water and cook, but also to heat the house. In the dirt floor space, farm tools are exhibited to help introduce seasonal farming practices.
